A Global Player, proudly manufactured in South Africa

The Maksal factory which is situated in Springs, South Africa, is optimised for seamless
production of quality products.
Our facilities are grouped together according to function, allowing for the optimisation of the
individual processes in manufacturing copper tube and copper bar.
Each division has a semi-automatic extrusion press, and the extrusions are done in a controlled
atmosphere to avoid any oxidization of the hot works.
In the extrusion division Busbar and Profiles, conventional draw benches, stretchers and other
drawing equipment is used to manufacture orders as per customer requests. The maximum width
that can be manufactured at this stage is 200 mm.
Maksal has been exporting for many years, all over the world, and our brand is recognised
around the world as a superior product.

Our Copper Quality
Copper used for the manufacturing of busbars is of CDA 110 (BS2874 C102) standard, which means it
contains a minimum of 99.9% pure copper.
C102 is an electrical Tough Pitch Copper (ETP-Cu) of high purity. Depending on the temper, the
electrical conductivity ranges between 98% to 102% IACS. This material is widely used in the
electrical industry as a conducting material as well as in general engineering where the excellent
corrosion resistance of purity is of an advantage.
For tin plated busbar, a state of the art tin plating facility is used to plate copper bar to
exact specifications for use in electrical applications.
Packaging for international customers consists of seaworthy wooden crates of high standard,
which are loaded at Maksal into containers for shipment directly to the customer.

Why Tin plate?
Tin is a soft white metal which can be readily polished, brushed or flow-melted to give a bright
finish. It is non-toxic and is minimally affected by organic acids, water, air or sulphur.
This makes tin a metal that is less susceptible to corrosion attack than copper.
Tin coatings applied to the contact surfaces of copper busbars delay oxidation, especially in
hostile environments and high temperatures. This in turn increases the efficiency of the joint
over a long period which is especially important in the design of switchgears, switchboards
and transformers.
Tin plating is applied by means of electroplating the copper bar in a controlled environment
to a thickness of 10 micron. The thickness is with a calibrated Couloscope.
The purity of the Tin used at Maksal is 99.9%.
